Tedium class games

Tedium class games, aka “fidget games” are games which require little engagement from the player and typically feature gameplay that favors persistence. Sometimes they are defined as games that you can play while you are on the phone with your mother. Technically, game designers try to make sure that the game's controls are simple and are playable with just one hand or, preferably, a single button.

Tedium class games are rarely interesting on their own and benefit from artificial challenges, like beating a level seamlessly or very quickly.

Matt from Hypothetical Game Review writes that “The art here is not to beat the game, but to make it feel interesting. I am endlessly impressed by the sidequests you can come up with when stuck with a horrible game.”
