Katsag was Maksag Oordar's son. Sometimes referred to as Katsag Oordar, Katsag never changed his name to reflect the Oordar lineage. His children, Meenasag and Duhroonsag were given northern names.

Virtually nothing is known about Katsag's life prior to becoming second Murdoh to Maird after his father married Maye Seaoor in order to secure peace. Maird never became Tonaran's vassal region and Katsag's power was capped by Seaoor's interests. Based on his correspondence with Maksag, Katsag accepted his role and became part of the family. This allowed his children to assume power: Meenasag became the Queen of Maird and Duhroonsag became Jeen and then Jeenor. Meenasag felt it useful to consider herself as part of Oordars when it suited her interests and supported Rodare's ascension in 1593.
